Community Pet Pantry Project
Abbie's New "Pet Project-" a Community Pet Pantry to benefit needy families in Wake, Chatham & surrounding Counties. Though it is currently sponsored by the Pit Crew Pit Bull Rescue we will "Feed Any Breed in Need" (Cats too if we can get the supplies) Our goal is to help prevent unnecessary surrender by loving families who want to keep their pets but are struggling to provide food, medicine & veterinary care due to falling on hard times, job loss, health issue, or family emergency.
Though our rescue was based out of Wake County (and this is where 100% of our donations have come from thus far- thank you to Unleashed Mutts Pet Supplies and Phydeaux Pet Supplies (both in Raleigh) and the Animall Adoption Center in Cary (which is a great resource for any animal nonprofit in the state) I have found most people in need were close to home in Pittsboro. So, the Pet Pantry location has since moved to Pittsboro and we hope to find more local donation collection centers in Pittsboro/Chatham, to cut down on transportation costs as this is the area that seems most in need of such services. Anyone interested in featuring a donation bin in their retail/veterinary location, please let me know and we will ask the community to make purchases at your location to donate. The Community Pet Pantry is a non-breed specific project so despite being sponsored through my work with the Pit Crew Pit Bull Rescue, it is designed to "Feed Any Breed in Need." We also will work to emphasize the importance of Spay/Neuter to population control and (as funds allow) hope to sponsor spay/neuter for needy families through local discount programs as well as encourage other local programs that benefit animal welfare such as my wonderful friends at Dogs off Chains who offer Free fences to families of tethered dogs

"We Feed Any Breed in Need"
Our goal is to help prevent unnecessary surrender of pets by loving families who want to keep their pets but are struggling to provide food, medicine & veterinary care due to falling on hard times, job loss, health issue, or family emergency. People surrender their pets for a number of reasons, most often being: financial troubles, behavioral problems, trouble securing pet-friendly housing or health issues. The Community Pet Pantry is designed to help these animals & their humans. No one should ever be forced to part with their pets due to such issues. When times are tough, families need to stick together. Community Pet Pantry benefits needy families in Wake, Chatham & more. Though it is sponsored by the Pit Crew Pit Bull Rescue we "Feed Any Breed in Need" (Cats too : )
What We Do:
Our goal is to help provide pet food, supplies, medicines & veterinary care to low-income families who can not afford to provide for their pets needs, thus reducing the amount of animals in shelters & resulting in a lower euthanasia rate. We are working to help support low-cost spay and neuters for intact animals of low-income families by starting to sponsor the co-pays through programs such as Lillie's Fund from Chatham Animal Rescue & Education (CARE) & the reduced-cost program from Animal Control Services. As money allows, I hope to be able to offer assistance for flea/tick & heartworm prevention, some medical treatments.
How We Do It:
Direct donations of products (pet food, cat litter, treats & toys) from the public, retailers or manufacturers, having collection bins at retail locations (groceries, discount stores, feed shops) where members of the public may purchase items from the retailer to donate, as well as collecting monetary donations from individuals & companies to sponsor a “Fix,” feeding, or medical need. We also work to emphasize the importance of Spay/Neuter for population control. Though we will help any animal in need, “intact” animals only receive a limited amount of food, but the owners are notified if they are willing to spay or neuter their pet (at no cost to them if they qualify for discount program, the Community Pet Pantry will pay the fee), they are eligible to receive full benefits of our programs & more long term assistance.
What We Need:
Pet Food * Pet Treats * Fish Oil * Supplements * Cat litter
Flea & Tick Treatment (Advantix/Frontline)
Heart-worm Treatment (Heartgard/Interceptor)
Toys (Balls, Rope Toys, Squeak Toys, etc)
Chew Toys (Kong, Nylabone, Rawhide, etc)
Natural Chews (Bones, Antlers, etc)
Money Donations for Spay/Neuter
